Day 1

Guests are collected from Maun Airport around midday. We depart immediately for a 3-hour drive along the Makalamabedi vet fence to the eastern entrance of Central Kalahari Game Reserve (Matswere). We arrive in CKGR in the late afternoon and start seeing the first game crossing Kukama Pan en-route to Deception Valley. Deception Valley is a magnificent fossil river now covered with clusters of trees and grass. Excellent concentrations of game live here after the rains have fallen. Species like springbok, gemsbok, hartebeest and blue wildebeest are commonly seen as well as eland, kudu and giraffe along the wooded areas adjacent to the valleys and pans. All the predators including lion, leopard, cheetah, brown hyena and black backed jackal can be seen.We arrive in our campsite in the late afternoon, in time for a sundowner and shower.
Overnight Deception Valley.

Day 2 & 3

Early morning game drive to Deception Pan andLethiahau pan in search of game. The route takes us past “ Owens camp” where Mark and Delia Owen stayed for a few years doing research on the hyenas and lions of the Kalahari. They published a very popular book “Cry of the Kalahari.”

We have brunch midmorning in camp after which you can bird watch, read or simply siesta.

Late afternoon game driveto Sunday and Leopard pan areas.

Overnight Deception Valley.

Day 4

After breakfast we depart and follow a sandy track crossing rolling dunes covered by tall dune grass and clusters of Acacia trees.

We arrive in Passarge valleyin time to enjoy a picnic lunch under large shady trees. Passarge valley is set in the north west of CKGR and was closed until 10yrs ago to the public, the valley, smaller than Deception Valley gets it name from a Swedish Botanist called Passarge. The area is remote and not visited frequently but has good game concentrations if rains fell.

In this area Suricate or Meerkat can be found over and above the other Kalahari game species.

We arrive late afternoon in camp and enjoy drinks overlooking the valley

Overnight Passarge Valley.

Day 5

Early morning and afternoon game drives in the valley in search of game. If good rains have fallen large herds of Gemsbok and their young can be seen in the area, which attracts the predators. Numerous bird species and small raptors can often be seen in pursuit of their prey.
Overnight Passarge Valley.

Day 6

We depart after breakfast for a day drive to Piper Pans. Piper Pans are set in the Southern part of the northwestern section of CKGR. We travel through San Valley, Phokoje Pans and arrive late afternoon at Piper Pan. The drive is very scenic and game can be found all along the valleys and pans, where the game comes in search of grazing and salt. Piper Pans are three very large pans separated by a small island covered by a rare succulent plant. The area has all the Kalahari game species and is an excellent place to find predators.

A man made waterhole attracts game if working at time of visit. Although most species in Kalahari don’t need open water they drink if it’s available.

Overnight Piper Pans.

Day 7

Early morning and afternoon game drives in search of animals.

Overnight Piper Pans.

Day 8
